An attorney and professor at the University
of Houston Law Center has been named the
Bureau of Land Management's deputy director for policy.
Most recently, Marcilynn Burke
taught environmental law courses in
Texas on land use and
management, natural resources, and property. She has also served as
visiting assistant professor of law at the Rutgers School of Law in
Camden,
N.J., and at Seattle
University School of Law.
Previously, Burke worked for four years at the
Washington,
D.C., office of Cleary,
Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton, where she focused on environmental law,
antitrust, and civil and criminal litigation.
"Marcilynn Burke brings a
well-rounded knowledge of natural resource and environmental
stewardship issues to the table," BLM Director Robert Abbey said in
a statement. "Her expertise in renewable energy and other land
management issues will make her a valuable member of the BLM's
leadership team."
Burke earned a bachelor's degree from the
University of
North Carolina, Chapel
Hill, and her law degree from
Yale
Law
School. She
clerked for U.S. District Judge Raymond Jackson of the Eastern
District of Virginia.
